Family History Course
“A family history course may be taught during Sunday School or at another time that is more convenient for members. This course is organized under the direction of the bishopric rather than the Sunday School president.”  (Handbook 2.4.5)
Please note that a Family History class does not come under the Sunday School, but rather is organized under the direction of the bishopric. This important instruction should be made available to all members, adults, youth and children. ( Leader’s guide to Temple and Family History Work To Turn the Hearts, pages 16-17) http://broadcast.lds.org/elearning/FHD/Local_Support/Priesthood/T3H/En/To_Turn_the_Hearts.pdf

Currently the “Member’s Guide to Temple and Family History Work” and Instructors manual are out of date, but there are many resources to help teachers of Family History.  Here are two resources that can be used:  (1)  Online instructions at lds.org/serve and teach/ all callings/ Family History:  https://www.lds.org/callings/temple-and-family-history?lang=eng  Note that under the Family History Consultant training can be taken individually (new consultants) or downloaded as a class. Parts of this training for consultants could be used in a class as needed. (2) http://thefhguide.com/  These materials were prepared by two BYU Professors of Family History.  Note the section on training.  This site is not sponsored or endorsed by FamilySearch® or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Views expressed here are of its site owners.  Please read and agree to the Terms and Conditions before downloading or using the Training Materials.  This is a free site. The instructions are up to date in using the features on familysearch.org. and other family history sites.
